An Argentine journalist has claimed that Lisandro Martinez could be ‘out between one to two months’ after he appeared to suffer a serious knee injury during Man United’s 3-0 win against West Ham at the weekend.

Starting for only the fourth time since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off, the Argentine was substituted after he had clashed with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal.

The 26-year-old seemed in some discomfort after the incident, laying on the byline clutching his knee after he had appeared to twist awkwardly in the challenge.

TyC Sports reporter, Gaston Edul, has now given an update on his situation, claiming on X (formerly Twitter) that the defender had ‘sprained a collateral ligament in his leg.’

Despite that, he also claimed that there was ‘good news’ and that the Argentine World Cup winner ‘did not need to have surgery’

Martinez had already missed a large chunk of the season and United fans were left fearing that his season could have been ‘completetly done’ after he limped off the field on Sunday.

Man United boss, Erik ten Hag, also expressed concerns over his centre back’s fitness after the match, with the Dutchman stating: ‘It doesn’t look good, so there’s a big concern.

‘We have to wait for the diagnosis, then we can tell you more.

‘He is very sad, very disappointed. We are with him. It’s a personal disaster. He is just returning. He is very important for us. He brings spirit to the team, aside from his football ability. Hopefully it is not too bad, we can only pray.

‘He worked so hard to return and now, after four games, it looks like he has to sit some games out again.’
